Unknown Caller

The phone rang as he sat down on his bed. After a day of having the phone ring, it was a seriously unwelcome sound. Fishing it out of his jeans pocket, he was sure it was Stephen at work, calling with yet another emergency he should be able to handle. But as he produced the phone and glanced at the screen to see that the caller ID read "Unknown" he thumbed the screen to answer the call.

"Hello?" he tentatively greeted his mysterious caller.

The caller wasted no time, "Good afternoon Mr. Greene. My name is Grant Smith. I'm sorry to tell you that you're father passed away this morning."

Greene hadn't heard from his father in over seven years. He and his father hadn't grown up spending much time with each other. There wasn't any acrimony. But there wasn't any love either. They had more or less grown into indifference, and Greene eventually figured that whatever it was, that held his father's time, he wasn't ever going to compete with. Still, now that he had just been informed that his father was gone, the sadness still hit him.

"...I see..." Mr. Green said. Having been caught with such news, he was unsure where to go from here.

"Mr. Greene, I'm the executor of your father's estate. I want you to know that he has taken great pains to keep you from having to manage his burial. But you have inherited something that I think you should take custody of here at my office in Virginia. If you can get away from your job, your travel arrangements have been taken care of."

"I don't know, it might take me some time to.." Greene was uncomfortable with how upset he was at his father's passing. He wasn't about to spend days or weeks buried in these feelings. Smith cut him off.

"Mr. Greene, I understand it's difficult to get away, but I promise you, this estate demands your attention, and you really need to be here." His tone was even, but Greene was sure he picked up a hint of urgency.

"Alright, when is my flight?"
